An export declaration is required to export goods from the UK. You should have a valid export declaration for your goods to be cleared to leave the country.
Export declarations are typically the responsibility of the exporter. Export declarations can either be submitted by the exporter or their appointed representative / third party. Export declarations can be submitted using HMRC’s Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system until 30th November 2023. Beyond this date, export declarations should be submitted using Customs Declaration Service (CDS).
An export declaration contains details about the goods being exported, such as the goods description, commodity code, weight, and statistical value, and is used by the customs authorities to control exports and capture trade statistics.
